Twelfth Annual BYU Religious Education Student Symposium Friday, February 19, 2010 Wilkinson Student Center Purpose of Conference: To provide a forum for students to research, write, and present papers about religious subjects from a faithful perspective. Eligibility: All full-time BYU undergraduate and graduate students attending BYU-Provo winter semester 2010 are invited to submit a paper. Cash awards for winning papers: 1st Place $1,000.00 2nd Place $ 750.00 3rd Place $ 500.00 Plus several additional cash awards at the discretion of the committee. Contest Guidelines: Papers submitted for presentation at the symposium must be original, faith promoting, and should not be simultaneously submitted to other conferences or journals. If accepted, each author should plan on fifteen minutes to present their paper. Presentations may focus on a topic of religious significance, including but not limited to the following: Scriptural topics Doctrinal topics History of the Church Ancient religious history World religions Religion and family life Family history Teachings of living prophets Paper Requirements: DEADLINE: November 30, 2009 in the Faculty Support Center, 271 JSB. Those submitting papers will be notified of acceptance by approximately January 15, 2010. Papers should be Chicago style,10-12 pages in length, not including endnotes. All quoted sources should be fully cited in endnotes. The papers must be typed and double-spaced. Please paper clip your entry. Please include the following information on the title page of your paper: Title of the Paper Student’s Name Major and class (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student) Contact Information: address, phone number, e-mail Statement that the work is not currently submitted for presentation or publication On the last page of the paper, provide an abstract or summary of no more than 150 words about the content of the paper. Be sure to exclude your name from all pages except the title page. Please retain documentation of the sources you cite in case your paper is accepted for publication. Questions?
