Bio: I spent the last six years teaching Religion and History at BYU Hawaii, and served the last two years as Chair of the History Department there. I received my Bachelor's degree from BYU in Near Eastern Studies, Master's degree from the University of California at Berkeley in Biblical Hebrew, and PhD in Near Eastern Religions from UC-Berkeley and the Graduate Theological Union. My dissertation was published as a book, Abraham Meets Death: Narrative Humor in the Testament of Abraham, by Sheffield Academic Press. I enjoy participating in the Society of Biblical Literature and Sperry and FARMS symposia at BYU. I served a mission to Campinas Brazil, and I have also lived in Germany and Israel. I really like sports, snorkeling, and teaching. I am married to Margaret (Nelson), whom I love greatly, and we have five children: Jared Jr. (J.J.)
