Bio: Born in Salt Lake City, Utah. B.A. in Ancient Studies from BYU; M.A. & Ph.D. in Near Eastern Studies from the University of Michigan. Has been at BYU since 1980. He was the former chair of Near Eastern Studies at BYU. Three recent books: Joseph Smith’s Commentary on the Bible; From Apostasy to Restoration; and The Restored Gospel and the Book of Genesis. He is married and has five children and four grandchildren.

Courses Taught: Old Testament, New Testament, Pearl of Great Price, Islam and the Gospel

Areas of Research: Ancient Near East, ancient and modern scriptures, and the Joseph Smith Translation of the Bible
